Taking time out is essential

In today’s blog we want to get you thinking about your business, more specifically how often you take time out to work on your business.

We’re all guilty of it, and at Sixothree we’re no different. We get caught up in our day-to-day tasks and before we know it weeks/ months have flown by. But what’s essential is that you make time to evaluate your position and make plans to help drive your business forward.

Do you treat your business like any other client and allocate focused time to work on your goals and action plan? If the answer to this question is no, we’d encourage you to ask yourself why?

Heeding our own advice

Last week we took our own advice and took a day out of the office to spend some time setting goals and preparing a marketing plan to help us achieve our goals for 2019 and beyond. We find having planning days away from the office allows us to solely focus on the task in hand, and a new environment can encourage the creative juices to flow. Following our planning day each member of the Sixothree team now has set actions with deadlines which collectively work towards reaching the defined goals we have set for the business.

Most business owners see their business as their baby and can become defensive if criticism is aimed at their child/ business. Sometimes a fresh approach can bring about new ideas and a new way of working which is much more efficient, so listen, be open, and you never know where new ideas can take you. Ask yourself, how close are you to your business? Do you need to take a step back and spend time defining your goals, so you are clear on the direction you are heading?

Saving you time, money and added stress

As a small business owner, you can end up taking on every task from accounting to marketing and everything in between but is this really the best use of your time. Are you wasting time trying to master tasks that aren’t within your skillset? Ask yourself questions like, could I save time by outsourcing and focusing on what I do best? Things like social media, bookkeeping and call answering are examples of services that can all be easily outsourced and will help to save you time, money and stress. It is also extremely important to consider your work-life balance. As a small business owner, you can end up working 50, 60 or even 70-hour weeks without even realising it. Could you outsource any of your tasks to free up some precious free time to see friends or spend more time with your family? In twenty years’ time it won’t be the three hours you spent figuring out how to tag on social media that you’ll remember, it will be the three hours you spent making memories with family.
