My time at Sixothree

My year at Sixothree has genuinely been one of the best of my life. My journey began when Karen kindly offered some work experience whilst I was still studying business management at university. Not only did I gain some invaluable hands-on experience, it actually confirmed marketing was the career path I wanted to take.

I remember saying I would’ve loved a role at a firm very similar, so I was ecstatic when I was offered the role of Marketing Assistant. I learnt more about marketing from working here a day than I think I did in my degree. It’s been a year of many “firsts” for me and I honestly don’t think any other firm could help me transition from being a student to a fully-fledged marketing geek better.

As my first job after graduating, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect, but as soon as we went for our first team lunch at the lovely Grill on New York Street, I knew I was already a valued member of the team.

No two days are the same

The environment at Sixothree, where your opinion always matters and you are involved in every aspect of marketing, was something I never even expected from a graduate role. I was quickly trusted to be directly involved in the marketing for such a diverse range of clients across every industry I can think of; from retail technology, to translation, to property development. No day at Sixothree is the same, it’s like you’re the marketing department for every client you work with, so you build such a strong rapport with the clients, yet get so much variety.

One of the best things about working here for me has been having the opportunity to shape the marketing strategy for different businesses, some who haven’t even launched yet! The brainstorming sessions where we’ve come up with ideas for every element of what a business does; from their logo, to their website, to the events they should attend, have taught me so much about growing a brand

Creativity central

As much as everyone who has ever met me for more than 5 minutes knows I love writing, getting the chance to have so much creative input into everything has been incredible. I have absolutely seized the chance to write copy for everything and anything, from websites, to press releases, to blogs. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing your work representing different businesses, sparking conversations in the industry. As much as I love the content, I’ve also learnt so much about the importance of SEO and how everything needs to be optimised so clients can be found more easily.

I’ve absolutely loved coming up with content for social media for clients and engaging with customers. Seeing that what you’re posting is paying off, whether it’s a challenge people are responding well to, or even that people are clicking through to the client’s website more to get more enquiries, I’ve felt like I have made such a difference. Some of it has just been really fun too, a self-confessed Instagram addict, being able to create Instagram stories as part of my role has been a pretty good bonus!

Tracking how social media has performed each month through reports has made me really keep an eye on what works and what doesn’t, meaning I’m constantly discovering new things. I love seeing a client build a better relationship with their customers. I’ve also developed a bit of a Canva and photoshop addiction, creating branded graphics for clients, everything from their testimonials down to some quarantine quizzes!

The Dream Team

Working so closely as a team is pretty much unbeatable for how much you learn. Being in a team of like-minded, wonderful people who know more about marketing than I could have even thought to ask has been priceless in how much I’ve grown, both professionally and personally. I could not thank them enough for everything they have shown me and the many, many ways they have helped me develop my skills and confidence.

From marketing a music festival, to launching start-ups to writing insightful copy, I’m not even sure I could pick my best moment, but I can’t deny the people might just be my favourite part. Not only have I met so many people through exciting networking events and getting to know our office neighbours, being lucky enough to get to know Karen and Jen who I truly consider amazing mentors and friends has been the icing on the cake.

My time at Sixothree has absolutely flown by and I could not have asked for a better experience. From catching up on Love Island gossip, to Friday Fizz, to nights out at the Comedy Store and the Christmas markets, I have so many fond memories with Sixothree! As I move back to Sheffield, I know they will carry on doing an amazing job of increasing brand reach and being an absolute A team that I will miss so much.
